Besides the newly acquired 2017 NFL draft picks, the New York Jets have also signed Austin Calitro. While not picked by any team during the draft, several teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles later wanted to sign the Villanova graduate. But Calitro chose the Jets, as they were already a team on the top of his list.
When told that he would be contributing on special teams, Calitro stated, “If I’m going to keep playing football, I’m going to do whatever it takes.” His determination enabled him to go from special teams player to defensive starter and team captain at Villanova and will likely contribute to his success with the Jets.
